Happy Birthday to the iPod
The Device that Gave Birth to the Future
Remarkably, 11 years ago to the day Apple broke from tradition and developed a product that didn’t sit on your desk and push pixels around. On that fateful day, Steve Jobs stood before the world with an unimaginably small device hidden in his pocket. This radical new device claimed to contain 1000 songs on a single hard drive. No bigger than a pack of cigarettes, this pretty little brick of white and chrome the world knows as the iPod literally saved Apple, rocked the music industry to its core, and forever altered the way we interact with technology. The Dignified Devil strongly believes the decade of technological innovation that followed can all be traced back to this day in history: October 23, 2001, and the birth of the iconic iPod.
It defies our awareness of time, but it’s been more than a decade since Apple took their greatest risk and reintroduced the world to the joy and excitement of new technology. In the process, Apple ignited the imaginations of innovators around the world and sparked an era of tremendous development in the way we interact with computers and entertainment. On the foundation of the diminutive iPod, Apple has grown to be the world’s most valuable free-market company. We live in the future we read about in books and saw in science fiction films; an interconnected world with endless data at our finger tips. Amazing it all began with this unassuming little music box.
